How is coaching different from Consulting and Training?

Consulting brings expertise to you. Training delivers the expertise. Coaching brings expertise out of you.

In consulting, a person may be brought into an organization to observe, diagnose, make recommendations for change and even assist in the implementation of the change. It is globally focused.

In Training objectives are set out by the class and the curriculum. The coaching relationship focuses on you and your objectives and issues alone. Training occurs in a one to two day period while coaching occurs over weeks and months. Reinforcing and supporting the learning and growth continues on each week.

Coaching is one on one, focused entirely on that one person in their environment.

Why is coaching becoming so popular?

Coaching works one on one with a person to help them identify areas for improvement and increased satisfaction; increase the sense of being Innergized. The focus is on the person, not the process, not the technology. Statistically we can see that it works. It works at Fortune 500 companies and small entrepreneurial organizations equally. Coaching allows and encourages people to be their best, to shine, to feel good and great about what they are doing.

Coaches provide a safe person to talk to about the things that they want to change. A coach becomes your champion.

I ask my kids every night 'was there anything that happened today that you didn't know how to handle?'. It's a great question, especially as they get in the teenage years. Instead of the one word answers that I usually get with 'how was your day?', I now get to know and understand what's on their mind. I help them create strategies for handling the daily challenges that are presented to them. Wouldn't it be nice if someone asked you that question and helped to find solutions and alternate strategies? That's what coaching does: looks at challenges and opportunites, helps put it in perspective and find new approaches and solutions to it. This is part of growth and learning and creating a 'better' place to be. Coaching works with your life, your experiences, and your challenges. All of these affect how Innergized, excited and positive we feel.

A coach will work with a solid toolkit to help identify how to make your vision and dreams a reality, one progressive step at a time.

    How does coaching work?

You meet with your coach for an initial session, called an intake session. This is usually 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours and can be either in person or by phone. In the intake session you take a snapshot of where you are where you would like to go. From there meetings are once weekly, usually for 45-60 minutes. Meetings are most often by phone, making it easy for travel and hectic schedules.
